In September 2006, The Florida Department of Health issued the Silence Is Death report (available here as a PDF).

This report detailed the manner in which ethnic and racial minorities, specifically African Americans, have been  disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS.

Did you know:

1 in 58 African American males in Florida are HIV positive?                                                                                                                   1 in 83 African American females in Florida are HIV positive?                                                                                                    African Americans make up half of all HIV/AIDS cases, yet only make up 14% of the nation’s population?

The Silence is Death Task Force was formed in late 2006 to address the disparities presented in the report. If you are interested in becoming a member of this Task Force, please contact Kathy Walker, Area 7 Regional Minority AIDS Coordinator. This Task Force is focused on raising awareness and providing educational opportunities to interested parties in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Brevard Counties.

Please check this page soon to learn when and where the next Task Force meeting will take place.
